dis_figured

a sculptural dance miniature on 2 m²

The solo dis_figured plays with the meanings of the English word “figure” (image, appearance) and its negation “disfigured” (deformed, distorted, defaced). The piece choreographically explores the boundaries between the legible “figure” and the “disfigured”, questioning definitions of beauty and ugliness, the understanding and the intangible. At the centre is an anonymous person with a hidden face who moves in a confined space. Her body parts appear detached, but gradually transform into a complex “something”.

What is left of the human if you erase what's recognised as human?
What is that anyway?
