Eva Baumann has been working internationally and nationally for over 20 years in a variety of contexts and artistic formats.

Her curiosity and openness, as well as her belief in lifelong learning and her appreciation of all forms of art and culture, played an important role already during her studies. She obtained her degree as a dance artist at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts and another degree as choreographer at Codarts—Hogeschool voor de Kunsten in Rotterdam. Her studies in Rotterdam were made possible by a DAAD graduate scholarship.

Between 2003 and 2012, she worked throughout Europe with choreographers whose individual signatures had a lasting influence on her and shaped her artistic development.

In 2006 she made her debut as a choreographer with the full-length production mutterseelenallein, for which she received a production award from the Dutch Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds whilst still being a student.

Since 2012, Eva Baumann has focused on her own productions. Bridging the boundaries between dance theatre, performance, puppetry, and installation/sculpture, she initiates and produces her own works, staging them both in theatre spaces and as site-specific performances.
Since 2015, content-based audience outreach has also played an essential role in her work.

Her work is characterised by an investigative approach that explores the intersection of psychological, socio-political and artistic questions. The body and its multifaceted forms of expression, as well as the exploration of real or imaginary spaces, take the foreground and run like a common thread through her work. Aesthetically, she seeks out original movement languages, with the choice of artistic tools determined by the subject matter at hand. She works with a distinctive, subtle sensibility for form and time, which lends her pieces a remarkable intensity. In terms of subject matter, she is interested in aspects of social issues that smolder invisibly in the shadows, feminist discourses, and historical connections between the past, present, and future.

In addition to public funding, Eva Baumann has received several grants, including from the Kunststiftung Baden-Württemberg, Dachverband TANZ and Fonds Darstellende Künste. Artist residencies have taken her to places such as the Bauhaus Foundation in Dessau, Dance Limerick in Ireland, and the Künstlerhaus Lukas in Ahrenshoop.

Since 2009, she has been teaching in various settings, including a teaching position at the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts in Berlin in the Department of Contemporary Puppetry.

She is a certified Somatic Yoga teacher and completed the first intensive training cycle of the Deep Listening® Method in 2025. She uses this method to complement her artistic, facilitating and educational work, which focuses on listening and somatic approaches in a time of global crises.
